beef’s beard

solstice parade june 2007

Three minutes into meeting ann at the solstice parade.

“You know I’m going to have to braid your beard”

“What? No one has ever asked to do that before!”

The only two republican girls at the left leaning solstice parade and they both happen to be at our table. The conversation was strange, often times blocking out thoughts that shouldn’t be heard. The conversation reached raised voices at some points. Other times just a roll of the eyes was all that was needed to convey the emotion. As always, the bill/monica story was thrown out and the rest of the table had a good laugh. The sun was out, the beer was good, and it was another entertaining day at the parade.

Ann is on the left and Leah is on the right. The third girl in the picture matter of factly told me that if I came into Harborview on her shift for anything, she would definitely have to cut my beard off before they went any further. Ah, the good times.

hooray for parades!

The loss of photos for the time being has prevented me from delving to far back in the past. However, the refreshing mint juleps and wonderful red velvet cake always make people a little more friendly. These shots were taken in the late afternoon at a friend’s house on Capitol Hill, The yearly 3 minute horse race that everyone wants to watch.

No real explanation of why the desire arose. I know Jeff through Brain and Axel.softhairy

the beginning

This discussion has been an ongoing occurrence between my beard and I. Was it really time to document the progression that this object on my face has taken?

There are many fun, odd, interesting circumstances that my beard gets into. I really don’t have much to do with it. I’m just along for the ride.

As many have encountered, the growth on my face has a way of attracting attention, good times, and general tomfoolery. I want to document a little bit more of this. See if people have wacky reasons for coming up to me on the street, at a show, in the store and asking me if the can touch the beard. Maybe some other questions will get answered in the meantime, always a favorite - do you wash it? Well, the short answer is yes, like I wash everything else on my body. I think they are hoping that I have some miraculous routine that helps me cultivate this powerful force or maybe they can’t think of anything else to say due to the power that it holds.

Regardless, the first few posts will have me looking back in my 7 years of archived photos and see if I can find some gems to get it started. I’ve got a few from this past weekend but I’ll let those wait a little while.

Who knows what this will be, maybe it will get stale, maybe I’ll cut my beard. This first photo is courtesy of Joe Dixon from our trip to New Orleans for Lewis’ wedding. It was mid April, a wonderful friday afternoon, and the moment struck me so.

who is that beard?
